Even though you may have some sort of auto insurance, when renting a car it might be smart to take the additional auto insurance coverage. There are all so many small things that can happen when in an accident that might void your coverage’s, cause you to be at fault and raise your monthly payments on your auto insurance policy. The reason why individuals push this auto insurance is to protect the coverage’s the customer might have to pay if they get in an accident in the rental car. You might think that they are just trying to make money on the additional auto insurance coverage they try and sell, but what they are selling is the safety and security of your own auto insurance. Some people try to use their credit cards as a way to protect their rental car, but most of those credit cards don’t work well for auto insurance and are often voided due to small instances such as having an accident in a parking lot will void your auto insurance by using your credit card. Another thing to think about would be why put your auto insurance at risk in a rental car that is not even yours? You would be paying a little bit more up front for the rental and additional auto insurance coverage’s but in the end, if something happens to the car your auto insurance does not find out, and you just hand in the keys and walk away from it all, having the rental company pick up the tab.
